A cable barrier on I-85 near Jefferson damaged in a wreck Tuesday will be repaired by the Georgia Department of Transportation on Thursday.
Repair crews will be on the site from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to replace 400 feet of asphalt and 800 feet of cable barrier.
A crane crashed around 5 p.m. Tuesday at I-85 southbound just south of the exit ramp to Hwy. 129/Hwy. 11, exit 137. Southbound traffic was detoured up the exit ramp, across Hwy. 129/Hwy. 11 and back onto the interstate via the entrance ramp.
On Thursday, one lane of the interstate will be closed at a time for the repairs. The lane closure will begin on I-85 south about one-half mile north of exit 137, Jefferson/Hwy. 129 and continue to about one-half mile south of that exit.
The DOT finished with the temporary repair work at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. Approximately 800 feet of cable barrier was damaged. The driving surface of the roadway was gouged and scraped leaving a ragged driving surface.
