Shane Coley of Winder and Frank Ginn of Madison County are headed for a runoff in the State Senate District 47 race.
Ginn led the contest strongly with around 45 percent of the vote while Coley had around 26 percent. Ginn carried Jackson County.
In other local races, Steven Bryant won the Jackson County Board of Education seat for District 5.
In the governor's race, Nathan Deal led the county Republican Primary followed by Karen Handel. Roy Barnes won the Democratic Primary both in Jackson County and statewide for governor.
Jackson County had some reported glitches in the system which slowed the ballot counting.
