Jefferson drug dog dies

The Jefferson Police Department has announced the death of one of its dogs, Ayok, who was found dead in his kennel last Thursday at 9 p.m.

The cause of death is not known yet but an autopsy was performed by the University of Georgia Vet School. The results will be available within the next few weeks.

Ayok, with his partner, Officer Jay Parker, was instrumental in apprehending many criminals and seizing large amounts of drug and cash.

A memorial service has been planned for 3 p.m. Friday, June 4, at the Curry Creek Park in Jefferson.

Personally, I don't like a government that finds it necessary to use dogs to sniff out what some person may decide to ingest into their own bodies. It's an intrusion into the private life of citizens. Nazis used dogs a lot. I like dogs. I just don't like training them to violate American citizens. It bothers me. So my joke, although you think it's not appropriate, could have showed restraint on my part.

When I read about this on the net my thoughts immediately went out to the Parker family. These animals are not only police dogs, but they are family members as well.

I love my dog and she is part of my family. But I find it odd to have a memorial service for this dog publicly announced. It seems a waste of time and money for public servants. Do what you will on your own time.

Law enforcement dogs deserve the same respect as Law enforcement officers. If you read the full article in the paper, this dog has uncovered hundreds of thousands of dollars in drugs and drug money. They are as much a part of protecting the public as the officers are and they deserve a proper memorial service. Some people are thankful and respectful for them. This was more than just a family dog. Be thankful and respectful that this dog got drugs off the streets.

What's your problem? What do you care if they have a memorial service. I'm sure that dog would have risked his life for that officer, so yeah, I think he deserves a little recognition. That dog did more for this community than I'm sure you ever have.

Hey respectful whats wrong with you you must be cop or related to one. What the hell is going on when an animal trumps the fourth amendment? The vast majority of these drugs are imported by the very govrenment that has made them illegal. They make money on both ends importing and enforcement. and no you dont hold a funeral service for a dog at tax payer expense. These cops live in there own little fantasy world.
