Nancy Jane Shields, 87, of Winder, died Monday, July 21, 2008.
She was born on July 16, 1921, in Jackson County, the daughter of the late Emory Hill and Annie Laura Elder Shields.
She was a member of the Galilee Christian Church and was a retired Federal Government clerical worker for 30 plus years in the Atlanta area. Mrs. Shields was preceded in death by a brother, George W. Shields; and sisters, Helen Anice Shields and Hazel Shields Mathers.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Reba Shields, Blountstown, Fla.; nieces, Rita Shields Maupin, Helen Shields Gavin, both of Blountstown, Fla., Patricia Mathers Orange, Sevierville, Tenn.; cousins, Kathryn Hopkins Rounds, Robert Hopkins, both of Atlanta, Hilda Elder Bone, Athens; and many lifelong friends, including Dorothy Merk Brewer, Mary Morgan and Inez Nix.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 23, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Galilee Christian Church with Minister Tom Plank officiating. The body will lie in state at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, is in charge of arrangements.
