The Jackson County Board of Education continues to chip away at its budget shortfall by making cuts. The latest items cut from the budget include money set aside for technology, supplies, assessment materials and salaries.
The BOE made an amendment to the current budget Monday night cutting $746,577. The reductions include $205,914 that had been allocated for salaries and benefits. Jeff Sanchez, assistant superintendent for finance and information services, said this decrease comes from not replacing some paraprofessionals and teaching positions.
Sanchez said local leaders will find out in April about any more state cuts.
“What we need to do is keep looking for other stuff to cut and keep amending,” BOE chairman Kathy Wilbanks said. “It is looking better but we will keep working on it…If we can find that much every month (to cut), we will be all right.”
Sanchez said more budget cuts are expected by the end of this school year.
and just as I have to decide what I need they should cut back, growing up the schools i went to the temp of those schools was kept at 65 degrees, I walk into the schools here and in winter it is pushing 75 a lot of time in spring and fall the air is going the school I attended and graduated from had no central air, the windows would open (sometimes) but we also were not allowed to wear short pants, sleevless shirt and no this was not that long ago, we wore pants and shirts. the compouter labs were air conditioned other than that we just got though with being warm or hot not like we were in the endless pit of money the schools here are spending on air conditioning and heat.
