The City of Jefferson ended 2008 in the black, according to the town’s recently completed audit.
The city’s General Fund netted $763,700 on the year, pushing the town’s General Fund reserves to a little over $2 million.
In the city’s water and sewer fund, the town lost $61,300 on the year. While the city netted $195,500 in direct operating income and expenses, interest expense of over $585,000 offset that gain.
Overall, Jefferson fared better during 2008 than did many other area governments. As with most formerly fast-growing communities, Jefferson saw downturns in licenses and permits and in service charges during the year as construction took a dive and impact fees fell. Sales taxes and property taxes were also down in 2008.
Also in the audit, the city corrected some lingering problems discovered with the 2007 audit.
jndgidhjdhg and still here. You both sound as if you are sour because you did not get your way on something. Somebody have there feelings hurt?
Eric N. is right. Lets see what 2009 looks like.
Finances are looking good, companies like Aldi are still locating here, great schools, community events are awsome. I'd say that Jefferson is headed in a much better direction than most.
But you have never ever been interested in the truth, just running your mouth.
