Please summarize your background.
I am a lifelong resident of Jackson County and a graduate of the Jackson County School system. I am in the poultry industry, employed by Columbia farms of Georgia where I am the growout manager. I have been married for nine years to my wife, Shane, and we have a 3 year old son, Jesse.
How has your background prepared you for the seat you are seeking?
I work with family farmers on a daily basis helping them to be profitable and create budgets and cash flows for their poultry farms. I have also served on the West Jackson Fire Board of Directors. I understand how to work with a budget and how important planning is so that you are fair to the taxpayers.
Why are you the most qualified person for this position?
With my history and continuous service to West Jackson, I feel that I have background and understanding of how the system works and the best approach to make positive changes in our school system.
What do you consider to be the key issues facing the campaign? If elected, what would be your plans on how to address these issues?
The key issues facing the campaign is money and education. We have to educate with the best interest of the children while being fair to taxpayers. With today’s economy, tough budget decisions are going to have to be made, without sacrificing education. I am prepared to make those decisions.
What is the greatest challenge facing the person elected to this position and how would you address it?
The greatest challenge facing the person elected is the budget and making new policy. Each must be addressed individually and be fair and easy to understand for our students and their families, as well as all of our taxpayers.
What course would you like to see the county take as it grows over the next decade?
I think it is important for the county government and school system to work closer together, especially with the rising energy and fuel cost. The school system receives very little supplement for fuel for our buses. If we worked with the county to bid for fuel together it would have a large impact on the budget.
