Maysville council member arrested for drugs

A member of the Maysville City Council has been arrested after allegedly giving prescription pain medication to a friend to sell.

Rebecca McNeely, 57, 126 Freeman Drive, was charged with violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act by distributing a controlled substance.

McNeely first called the Maysville Police Department to report that she loaned a male friend jewelry and he had not returned it. During the conversation with the police officer, she said that she had also given the friend 10 Lortab pills to sell because she needed the money. She told the officer that her water and electricity had been cut off.

The police department contacted the friend who confirmed that McNeely had given him the pain medication and that he had sold it.

During McNeely’s conversation with the police officer, she also reported that the male friend had accompanied her to a meeting she attended in Savannah on behalf of the City of Maysville. McNeely was earlier criticized by the mayor for not attending classes during the conference. She was asked to repay the city for the costs related to attending the conference.

This is a very bizarre story. It appears that Mrs. McNeely has a number of personal issues going on in her life. Based on the contents of the story her judgement appears to be impaired. Given the climate in our country today we need sharp fully coherent people representing us from national positions down to the ward level here in Maysville. I recently attended a Maysville Council meeting and McNeely gave me a good bit of concern based on her actions during the meeting. I would strongly suggest that she resign from office. If not, those of us in this ward in Maysville should seek to recall her.

I hope Rebecca can get the help she needs with her physical, financial and other problems. She certainly no longer qualifies to represent the citizens of Ward 3 in Maysville. I believe a resignation is in order.

I live in Ward 3 and I hope that Mrs. McNeely resigns immediatley. She is not qualified in my opinion to vote on anything that involves the police department. Mrs. McNeely do the right thing and resign.

We all need to pray that Rebecca will get the help she needs. I don't think anyone in our ward has ill will towards her. But, she has a responsibility to safeguard our tax dollars.

At this point it is first in Ms. McNeely's hands. And, secondly in our hands as the Citizens and Voters in Ward 3. If she chooses not to step aside then it will be up to us to seek to remove her.
On that score there are three areas (reasons):
One. Absence from meetings and work sessions
Two. The Savannah issue
Three. This situation

I believe there are some qualified people that could step in and fill the void.

Nope, not me.
But I do know someone who is interested and has already been working hard for our ward. If he decides to run I will fully support him.
He is a straight up honest fellow and I think someone who would be a benefit to the council.

what a bad taste thats leaves in the mouth of maysville ga. maybe maysville police should have been on the look out but wait was she at golden pantry?okay that was low.but for all the money we put into for new cars,maybe we should drug check members of all workers,rescure and fire people,never know what we might find
