Has the unemployment rate in Northeast Georgia finally hit the bottom?
The unemployment rates in Barrow and Jackson counties actually went down slightly in August compared to the month before. Barrow County’s rate went to 11 percent from 11.2 percent in July. Jackson County’s rate went to 10.7 percent from 11 percent in July.
Since last fall, the unemployment rate had been steadily climbing from around 6.5 percent last August, into double-digits through the winter and spring of 2009.
