The investigation is continuing into the death of a Jefferson woman found in a freezer last week. As of press time Wednesday, law enforcement officials had not ruled whether it was accidental or if a crime had been committed.

Investigation continues into suspicious death
Billie Welty, 42, was found inside a small freezer in the kitchen of her apartment, located at Brooklyn Chase Apartments on Banks Road in Jefferson. She lived alone in the apartment.
Jefferson Police Chief Joe Wirthman said Monday that the autopsy revealed that there was no trauma to the body. He is still awaiting results of a toxology report before a determination will be made on whether foul play was involved.
Family members believe it was an accident.
“It appears to be a tragic accident,” said David Welty, her brother-in-law. “We just want to say we appreciate the concern of the community in regards to what has happened.”
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the investigation.
