A Jackson County student has been diagnosed with the novel H1N1 “swine flu” virus, according to the school system.
Superintendent Shannon Adams issued a statement late Thursday evening saying that a student at Kings Bridge Middle School has been diagnosed with the contagious disease.
The school’s principal, Debra Morris, was told earlier that evening about the student’s diagnosis.
“Dr. Morris has made arrangements for her custodial staff to come in and conduct a thorough cleaning of the entire building consistent with the recommendations of public health officials,” Adams said in a statement.
School nurses have also been told about the confirmed H1N1 case at the South Jackson school, and district officials will maintain regular communication with local public health officials.
Adams said school officials will diligently monitor the situation — and if necessary — take additional precautions.
“Please be assured that the school district will take every reasonable and appropriate precaution to help keep students, faculty, and staff from getting sick with the flu,” he said in the statement.
This story will be updated when additional information is available.
p.s. Be sure to wash your hands.
Thanks so Much.
Get your flu shot at the health department this fall!
Cleaning the school sounds like a great idea. Shouldn't have this been going on the whole time any way?
Public buildings are ventilated better than most homes. The best place for the flu to spread may not be the school. Let's take care of our homes too!
Common sense: Wash your hands, disinfect door knobs etc. These are normal living habits. Eat well, get enough rest. Don't smoke. Exercise.
Above all, vote the incumbents out in 2010! :-)

You could not of said it better....We are so need of change at the BOE!
AC filters are of minimal quality designed only to remove particles. They do not do that very well either How often they are serviced that depends on money too.
AC vents are ideal places for mold to grow. Cool, damp and dark. Ducts are never serviced and because air is turned off and on stuff really has a chance to grow.
Finally parents refuse to keep sick children home even though they know they are sick they send them anyway. Schools don't help because they demand perfect attendance. WHAT A MESS
