Sales tax revenues to Jackson County were down 18 percent through May and down 33 percent that month alone.
At the current pace, the county will fall $1 million under budget for the year in sales taxes, say officials.
Jackson County hit a peak in sales taxes in 2007 at $6.3 million. That dropped to $5.7 million in 2008 and may fall under $5 million this year, back to 2004 levels.
