Hoschton teenager Cannie Ash has made the 2009 USA World’s Championship Team, and will be traveling to Moscow, Russia to represent the United States in the 2009 Jr. flatwater kayaking championships.
Only six girls were selected from around the country to make the team.
Ash competed recently at Lake Placid, NY to make the team. In K2 competition, involving a two-woman crew, Ash’s team finished fourth in international competition and second among teams from the United States in the 500 meters. They finished third in international competition and first among US teams in the 1000 meters.
In K4 competition, using a four woman team, Ash’s team beat US time standards by two seconds to take first among US teams in the 500 meters, placing second among international teams. The team placed first among US teams in the 1000 meters, and second among international teams. They also placed first in the Open K4 1000-meters among US teams, and third among international teams.
The team will leave for Moscow on July 22. They will return home on August 3.
