Two homes were declared total losses in fires last week in Jackson County.
On Friday, July 10, a fire was reported at 889 Swain Road, Commerce. Fire personnel from Nicholson, Commerce, the Jackson County Correctional Institute, Harrisburg and Maysville responded to the fire. They found a 6,500 square foot single family residence well involved with fire.
No hydrants were located in the area and Ila Fire department in Madison County was called for assistance with tanker operations, officials report. The structure was a total loss.
No one was home at the time of the fire and the occupants were in Wilmington N.C. A nearby neighbor reported the fire. No injuries were reported.
On Saturday, July 11, units from South Jackson, Nicholson, and Jackson County Correctional Institute fire departments responded to 734 Archer Grove Road, Athens, on a reported residential fire at a single wide mobile home.
The residents were home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.
The structural damage was listed as totaled. Preliminary reports indicated an accidental fire.
