Man shot in May altercation charged with battery last week

A Jefferson woman’s boyfriend allegedly beat and choked her so badly last week that she was unconscious, but she told emergency personnel that she would only go to the hospital if he was not arrested.

The victim was informed by EMS that it was not their decision to make. The suspect, Ricky Beatty Jr., 26, Jefferson, was charged with battery by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Beatty was shot on May 6 during an altercation with a man in Nicholson. He was life-flighted in critical condition to Grady Memorial Hospital at the time with multiple gunshot wounds and underwent emergency surgery.

Sounds like he needs to be locked up for his own and other's protection. This is the true meaning of domestic violence.

But it's obvious she still loves him and intends to hang around for round 2. (stupid is as stupid does) May they live happily ever after.

I just hope she realizes before it's to late, that she
doesn't deserve to be abused, no matter what he is
telling her. There is always a way out, there is always
help. It's just a matter of believing in yourself enough
to find the strength to get out of the situation.

No Krissy she probably won't realize before it's to late? She may know she don't deserve to be abused but she won't leave.She probably won't even press charges? I seen this alot before when I worked as a Security Guard at a battered womens shelter? They would say they loved their abusers and don't want the abuser to go to jail because they think if they press charges then the abuser will really beat them up when they get out of jail? So if he does it once and she don't wise up and leave and she goes back then the next time it happens then yes in a way she deserves it.
No woman deserves to be abused but if she does get abused and she don't leave then I say next time don't go crying playing the victim?

Fortunately she doesn't have to press charges. That's what the family violence act is for. Hopefully it works in this case!

JAUTRY you say she don't have to press charges? I wasn't thinking but since they passed the family violence act the victim don't have to do nothing. If the cops see evidence of violence be it a busted lip,black eye, or anything it don't matter what the victim says the cops have to take the abuser to jail.Then the state takes over and files the charges? And from what I have heard about this guy He has been in trouble with the law before so he may get some time for this?And Jackson County isn't usually easy on this type of crime? Send him to prison for a while Bubba will like him?

I am glad to see that Jackson County arrested him , when will Commerce arrest the men that jump on women?? I was raped and assaulted 3 weeks ago and I went and let the hospital take my DNA to send to GBI and they took pictures of my bruises and guess what?? The guy has NOT been charged with rape.
I dont even know who I can talk to about it because no one will help me. In any other county I have saw the cops arrest a man just because a woman claimed she was hit but me I had the marks and I couldnt get any help.

Does Jackson County Sheriff's office or any municipality within that area even recognize domestic violence? or is it all the same old "that woman had it coming"? HELLO!!! Wake up. As a law abiding, mega taxpaying citizen in this county, both my son and myself have been brushed away with any requests for help. My idiot ex-husband (neither taxpaying nor law abiding) seems to have all of the cards. Welcome to JC.

psc It's sad that you can't get the help you need and deserve?I've seen this alot with men beating women and the other way around too.
I had a problem with my new wife's ex-husband. He had no license and would get drunk and come over wanting to fight.My wife wouldn't let me go out and fight so she called the law and they came out and just told him to go home because he was drunk, he got in the carand left and I told them he didn't have no license and he was drunk and they said well maybe he will make it home? In the first 2 months we were married he came over 6 times and I said that was it and she called the next time he came over and they said for us to tell him he had to leave.We waited about 5 minutes and I called the Sheriffs Dept.back told them not to worry about coming out to just send the ambulance they ask was I hurt and I said no but by the time you get here he will have a bullet hole in him.They got out there in a hurry after I said that? They finally arrested him and the Judge issued an order that he couldn't come with 500 yards of us or our home.

Ashley, unfortunately this is an ongoing issue with the Commerce Police Dept.....not taking male abusers to jail, I mean. The CPD sure knows how to lock the woman up though.......the innocent woman & the victim of the crime, I mean. I will never ask any woman in Commerce why doesn't she "just leave him" as so many others do because I know why. The domestic violence shelter/program in Jackson County knows about this problem with the CPD too. You should call them, please. Shame, shame, shame.....

No worries though.....God still sits on the throne; plus He promised righteous indignation and told us that "just as they have judged us, He will judge them". He gave "thou shalt not bear false witness" as one of the 10 commandments & He hates it; especially from those who have sworn to serve & protect us! ~~God bless!~~

Yes Jean you said a mouth full all true but a mouth full.I think the problem with the CPD is like any where else where you have male officers responding to a domestic dispute they will side more with the man before the woman? The same is true if female officers respond to the same call they tend to side with the woman before the man? Commerce shouldn't be that way because they have female officers alot of the police Depts are getting women officers EXECPT Madison Co. I think they the only ones who don't have female officers? They are behind everyone else?

Ashley you wanna know why no one would listen and you couldn't get no help? Because you had proof and it's not election time? If the election was coming up everyone would trip over each other to help you? But since there is no election coming up to them you are a nobody.They probably say you are over reacting or like a friend of mine that got raped years ago they said she ask for it because she may have been sending the wrong message to men because of the way she walked,she wore a short skirt after dark,and she was in a parking lot at 11:20P.M.she told them she had just got off work and the cop had the nerve to tell her that she turned him on when he saw her walk in.She made a complaint against this officer too and I think that's why nothing was done about her case here.
But to Ashley or any one who has been abused or raped call the GBI office in Athens then if that don't work call the GBI office in Atlanta and if they tell you you need to call the Athens office tell them you done did and tell them your story.

Yes if you realize too late then you just might not be around to see things that matter the most. Take it from someone that has been through two yes two marriages that involved domestic violence. When I saw the opportunity arises to get out I TOOK IT. The Lord provides the way and he provided mine twice. I am now married to a man that loves my children as if they were his own and he has never raised a hand to me and promised he never would. We have been married for ten years now and we have been through some bad times where I know we had some bad disagreements but before he would get to where he wanted to hit he would walk out and go for a drive or just pittle around in the yard. I know there are more good men like this out there and you just have to take your time to find them. Don't rush into anything the Lord will provide it for you.

Yes anon you are right If they will beat you once no matter how much they say they won't do it again 9 times out of 10 it will happen again and once your dead from one of these beatings you can't get out then it's to late.

That's what it's all about anon. We men need tools like your husband has developed. Pittling in the yard, going for a drive. I'm learning these myself. I've never battered but I've thrown things around. My Dad did it and I grew up with this learned behavior. I'm taking the domestic violence classes at Georgia Intervention Alternatives. I highly recommend any man "or woman" in need of coping skills to call them at 770-785-9297. We need help in overcoming these bad behaviors. Also there are many good books on family violence.

Yes Opinions throwing stuff is just as bad as hitting sometimes. I to had to take the classes for my anger because when me and I first wife divorced I got drunk and threw alot if stuff? The end result was she called the law and I got arrested and the Judge ordered I go to them.I did and the most important thing I learned was to just walk away. If it gets heated to the point where you want to throw stuff or hit them JUST WALK AWAY go in another room or outside. My temper cost me alot of money because I have beat holes it the walls,busted out the front storm door,put my fist through TV's but I had to replace all this stuff.

Yes I am married now and have been for 5 years. We still fuss every now and then but I learned to just walk away and cool down then come back and talk about it. No busting stuff up because you just have to replace it when you cool down. Another thing that helped me was I quit drinking. Ain't had a drop in over 6 years.

take it from a person who has threw alot of phyical and mental abuse. I reckon we're plain
stupid for putting up with it because ( our little
kids!!) I wish had left years ago.But as usual I figured he would change. But after years it still the same.But I have leaving on mine mind and soon.

Yes Liberty5449 If a person hits you once there is a good chance it will happen again? Once it happens the first time you had better get out while you still can and I think the mental abuse is as bad if not worse than the physical abuse? The abuser tears the victim down so bad telling them they can't get nobody else and they deserve the abuse they are getting?
