Man pleads guilty to murder

A White County man has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to the December 2008 murder of a Pendergrass youth minister.

William Joseph Dyer, 22, was reportedly sentenced last week in Cleveland. A woman was also charged in the murder, Jennifer Dawn Lineberger, 29, but that charge was dropped after she pled guilty to theft. She was reportedly sentenced to three years in prison.

The body of Edward Frank Harris, Jr., 44, Clermont, was found off the roadway near a vacant house in Cleveland around 4 a.m.

According to reports, Harris called his family Sunday night around 7 p.m. from the church in Pendergrass to say he was giving “some stranded people” a ride to Cleveland.

Officers of the Cleveland Police Department were assisted in the case by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Cleveland Office, the Office of the District Attorney for the Enotah Judicial Circuit, the White County Sheriff’s Office and the White County Coroner’s Office.

How do you get a murder charge dropped to theft???? These two made a bad boo boo because the Bible says something along the lines of you had better not harm one of his chosen so they will answer for it and Gods punishment will be alot worse than just setting in prison.

So the woman gets off with 3 years and the man gets life! Where is the fairness in that? They should have both rotted in prison for life. Please explain to me why women get off with these things. 3 years for being involved with a murder? She'll be paroled in two!

Why is it we in society always blame the man? It seems it is automatically so. I'm a bit tired of the blantant bigotry.

I agree with MichaelMcarthy how can you be involved in a muder of a youth minister and only get 3 years in prison? I wonder if it had been another guy involved in this murder instead of a woman would he have only got 3 years in prison or life? They tell us to trust the Justice system because it works? BULL or yeah it may work if you are the one breaking the law? And they say the Justice is fair to everyone Now you tell me how this is fair?

Supposedly she had nothing to do with the murder, she was just there. Her story is that she knew Dyer was going to rob Harris but that was all. That's her story and she's sticking to it.

Jautry: isn't it true if you are participating in an armed robbery and someone gets murdered you are guilty of that murder as well? I'm sure I've read where everyone involved gets a murder rap. The trigger person might get a stiffer sentence but everyone gets charged with murder. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think so. Better that a jury decide than plea this down to theft. This was murder and two people were involved in it.

I agree with you. How could they get theft from murder?? She must have had some good dirt on somebody they wanted to arrest. But if she did rat on someone big then her life ain't worth a plug nickel? She will die before he does??????

That is so stupid? Growing up in school when the law would come talk to the kids they would tell us that if you was with someone and they commited a crime you could be charged just like you commited the crime? She knew what she was getting into. If you go to rob anyone there is a chance someone is going to get killed. She must have rolled over on someone and told what she knew.

Guess who turned states evidence??? Hhhhmmmm...? If she admitted to knowing that he was even going to rob the minister, shouldnt she AT LEAST be charged with accessory to comment robbery?? And doesnt that carry a stiffer sentence than 3 years? She'll do a thrid of that and be out in no time. They were both probably drugged up...planning a robbery, that led to murdering such a prominate member of our society. What I want to know is what Judge did she go before in this hearing?? Not Judge Justice.

I agree with everything you all said. Professional ethics prevent me from saying what I wish would happen, or more appropriately what I wish had happened. These are two pieces of trash and deserve to be treated as such.

Why you so worried about Professional ethics? Do you believe one thing but at your job you have to defend this scum? If so I understand you have to work and pay your bills and buy food because if you don't defend this scum you get fired and can't pay your bills. Just like police officers have to defend people they know are guilty. But they have to to keep a job.But you could have said what you thought and posted it under Anon or made up some name?I wouldn't want nobody to lose their job over some newspaper blog because they said what they thought and their boss didn't like it?

Unfortunately in today's soceity, especially in certain career fields, your opinion can get you in trouble. As long as you act and conduct yourself appropriately you will still be OK. I don't know what else I can say.

One of these pieces of trash will be goading some other low life in a few years to kill some other innocent.

Violent criminals (rapists, murderers, armed robbers) all need to be put away for life without parole.

We lock up drug abusers for years who may have never harmed anyone. But we let murderers go in 2-3 years?! Tax cheats get more time!

Prisons should be for only the truly violent and letting the truly violent go free shows just how stupid we are.

We lock up more people per capita than any other free country on earth and this is what we get?

I think the wrong people are being locked up.

Michael McCarthy I agrww with you 100%.I have heard of people getting 70 years in prison for selling drugs and you can kill someone and get out sooner than if you sell a little weed? They try to say drugs are a worse problem because drugs can kill our kids but I would rather have someone sell drugs to my kids than to put a gun to their head and pull the trigger.With the drugs they will most likely live but with the gun shot to the head they are most likely going to die. You let them catch a drug dealer and people are going to want him put away for ever but you let them catch a man for killing 5 people in cold blood and they going to start this crap saying he is disturbed and wasn't in his right mind when he killed the people he may serve a third of the time the drug dealer does.
Just like the Mexicans if they do something bad and get caught when they let them out on bail they go back to Mexico and stay a couple of weeks and come back with a different name,Social Security card,and all different papers and they can't touch them but we let this happen? I mean we that's you and me and every other American taxpayer.And it ain't going to chamge until WE change it?
Ok this is to ALL you crybaby belly rubbers out there: Who would you ratfer live next to a Drug Dealer or a rapist? I can teach my kids to say no and walk away from the drug dealer but the rapist don't give you that option?
