Long-Time Hoschton Police Chief Dave Hill has resigned and taken a job with the Jefferson Police Department.
Hill will serve as a Major with the JPD and will be the second in command. He is filling the position vacated several months ago by Gus Backelant.
JPD chief Joe Wirthman introduced Hill to the city council Monday night.
“The nine years I’ve been here (in Hoschton) as chief, I’ve worked very hard to make the right decisions and be frugal with funds, as well as working with the citizen’s needs,” Hill said Tuesday. “It has come to a point in my career where I needed to make a change and Jefferson has given me an opportunity. I’m looking forward to starting with Chief Wirthman.”
Hill’s first day on the job in Jefferson will be May 18.
Hoschton apparently plans to name Capt. Jeremy Howell as acting police chief.
“He has done a great job as second in command here,” Hill said.
I have a well-paying job, thank you so much for your concern though. These are tough times.
I've found that people are generally friendlier and can defend their points better who use their own name in these blogs. Why the mystery? Are you ashamed of your name? Come out from the peanut gallery. Have a proper, well-mannered discussion if that is possible for you.
Maybe you SHOULD stick to your alias Peanut head.
name. I seem to remember you threatening me in this blog
back in the fall. Why would I want to give you my name?
So you can take me out? Would you? You seem like the type....

But now you know we don't like speed traps. That was the idea.

To the original topic, Dave Hill, according to my sources comes with no bad press. He should be a good addition to the JPD. He has his POST certifications, which puts him a huge step up in my book.
I don't mean any harm.

Don't forget who you serve. (although I doubt your service is honorable)
You are the type of bully the writer's of the constitution were thinking of when they added the 2nd amendment. (You can ask someone to look it up for you.)
Truth is I support our police. I would not want to live in a society without you guys. Overall, you guys do a fantastic, difficult job.
"they'll only bring you down..."
That is one of the greatest things I've read on any comments section on this web site! I never even thought about it that way. Very wise.
Michael, you need not worry about a speed trap in Jefferson. Unlike some of the small towns in Jackson County, Jefferson actually provides city services. Your town doesn't so they need to produce revenue through fines in order to support the city. From what I hear you need not worry about that for much longer either.
I will speak on Michael’s character. I know him though I would not necessarily claim to be friends with him. He is an honest man with a good heart and a clear mind (most of the times). He may have done some things to get him in trouble in the past, but I would take him as my neighbor any day. His obvious disdain towards the discriminatory laws against men is because he is/was a victim of these laws. I would be bitter too.
Remember, argument is discourse aimed to persuade. An argument is set with premises and a conclusion. If one side is not persuaded, it’s not the end of the world. One benefit of argument is educating the other party. So a good argument serves multiple purposes. Most arguments I’ve seen in here are not cogent and therefore are not considered true arguments. At best they can be classified as emotionally charged rhetoric. And finally, we all have opinions and sometimes they do not agree. BFD, that’s what makes the world go around
PS Dave Hill is a good man I’ve known for years. He will be an asset to JPD. Jefferson, consider yourselves lucky.
Great comments. Of course that's just my opinion!
You may not know you are my friend but you are indeed. Call me for anything. I'll be there for you.
As for those who would try to bully me, if you came into my ER you would get the best of care, even if I knew who you are. I'm that kind of guy. (especially police officers) We all want to pursue happiness. I want that for everyone. It's an American right.
