County school leader hired by city BOE

Long-time Jackson County School System administrator April Howard was hired in a called meeting of the Jefferson Board of Education last week.

She will replace Donna McMullan as the director of middle/secondary instruction. McMullan was recently promoted to assistant superintendent due to the retirement of Sherrie Gibney-Sherman at the end of this school year.

Howard has been the curriculum director for the Jackson County School System, where she has also served as a principal.

April Howard will be greatly missed. She has been a source of inspiration to us all. Her leadership and personality has lead our school system to be one of high quality.

I am wondering why she toted "Jackson County and it's great education" during a PTA meeting earlier this year. Guess it's not as great as Jefferson's . . .

Jackson County does have a great educational system. If you read her exit letter it wasa bout taking a shorter contract to spend more time with her family. If she puts her family in high esteem, I'm sur e she will have that attitude wherever she goes.

Me so sorry. I did not have the priviledge of reading the letter. Seems like that is news worthy. Is it ironic how that detail was left out? I have no doubt Jefferson will benefit from this transfer. I have worked with her on numerous occassions, and have found nothing but pure professionalism. Another highly qualified and well liked Jackson County School System employee gone.

With the recent decisions made by the JC BOE, I am concerned as to what direction the school system is heading. The choice to let Dr. Everson go raised a lot of eyebrows, not only in Jackson in but surrounding counties as well. Dr. Everson and Dr. Howard represented the future for our children. In the past 10 years, both of these professionals brought to Jackson County what was lacking, professionalism and integrity. It has been said that Dr. Howard noted numerous personal reasons for her decision to leave Jackson Co., it should not matter where she has chosen to go. However, what is concerning is the timing of Dr. Howard's decision. She does not appear to be the type of person who will be part of a system that doesn't represent her personal educational views.

The county has lost two professionals with vision and integrity. Both were working for our children tirelessly. I wish them well and thank them for all they brought to Jackson County.

the job was already her's. It wasn't posted. what a joke. Remember the article about her and keith everson. this job was waitin for her. she hasn't missed a day of work, and neither will everson. when will they announce that they found him a replacement place, they can't announce a vancany or retirement before they give them the job, because someone might want it, and apply. now we don't want that to happen do with. sorry bunch of losers in this county.

In reference to you calling people in this county losers, you should take a look in the mirror. As for Dr. Everson, he is an asset to the Jackson County School System and not a liability. He has done a great job for the school system and he was a great man to work for. The school system will take a step back because of his departure. Where ever Dr. Everson goes to work next, they will be getting a good administrator, a good man, and good person to work for. He treated me with dignity and respect unlike a certain principal and assistant principal at the school on Gordon Street.

To April You go girl. And to the rest of you that are fussing about the job she got not being posted? Why you fussing Did you want it and could you do? Could it not have been that when they knew this job was coming open they knew who they wanted so they ask her and she took it,If she hadn't took it then it would have been posted. If you can't do the job don't fuss when someone that can takes it. Also she has the experence to do the job Do you?
