The East Jackson boys’ soccer team not only recorded its first win of the season last week, but it also defeated its in-county rivals, the Jefferson Dragons.
The week started out with a trip to Lakeview Academy that saw the Eagles drop to 0-4 with a 3-1 loss.
Despite the loss, coach Matt Miner said his team played its best offensive and defensive game of the season.
Brandon Wise scored the only goal for the Eagles.
“Brandon was aggressive offensively and played great defense as well,” Miner said.
The girls were scheduled to face Lakeview as well. Results were unavailable at press time.
Next was a home stand against Jefferson on Thursday.
For the boys, it meant their first win of the season, as they defeated the Dragons 2-1, holding off a late charge by Jefferson for the win.
Nick Alvarado scored the first goal with an assist from Ricardo Zaragoza 4:36 into the first half. Zaragoza scored the second goal of the night with an assist from Alvarado just under 11 minutes into the second half.
“Ricardo and Nick provided great offensive strikes all night,” Miner said. “We were solid defensively and gave ourselves numerous opportunities on goal.”
The girls found themselves bested by the Lady Dragons 1-0 in their match-up.
