JEFFERSON – Virginia Louise Tatum, 84, died Tuesday, March 10, 2009.
Born in Gainesville, she was the daughter of the late Styles and Leola Buffington. She and her husband moved to Jefferson prior to 1948, where he worked at the Jefferson Mills. She grew up in the Lebanon Methodist Church in Gainesville and was a member of Galilee Christian Church in Jefferson. She was a well-known cook, an avid gardener, and a devoted mother and grandmother, loved ones stated. Mrs. Tatum was preceded in death by her husband, Carl V. Tatum; sister, Mattie Lee Arnold; four brothers; and an additional sister.
Survivors include sons, Douglas R. Tatum, Watkinsville, Terry M. Tatum, Commerce, Carl Randall Tatum, Jefferson, and Rick Tatum, Athens; three daughters-in-law; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, March 12, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Rev. Vaughn Howington officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Park in Commerce. Pallbearers will be Tony Tatum, Andrew Tatum, Mike Tatum, Brock Tatum, Austin Tatum, Brad Martin and Greg Sullivan.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, March 11, from 7 to 9 p.m.
