he Jefferson Diamond Dragons got their season off to a good start Monday, as they picked up a victory over Riverside Military Academy.
The Dragons will next travel to Madison County on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
The Dragons came out strong from the start, putting two runs on the board in the first inning, then added another four to the total before the Eagles got their first runner across in the bottom of the second.
Jefferson continued to dominate, putting three more runs on the board to pull out to a 10 run lead by the middle of the fifth. Riverside tried to mount a charge, picking up five runs in the bottom of the fifth.
The Dragons would go on to score eight more runs to the Eagles’ three before the end to record a 17-9 victory.
Chris Swancey picked up the win for Jefferson on the mound, pitching three innings and giving up only three hits, one run, and no walks.
Jason Demos and Jake Fields both went 2-3 at the plate. Demos had two RBIs, a double and a triple. Fields had three RBIs and had two doubles. Caleb Meeks drove in two runs, as did Corey Wilkins. Lucas Redd, Kyle Hardy and Chris Beck also had RBIs.
