LINCOLNTON - Rev. James Darel Cool, 80, died on Sunday, February 15, 2009.
He was born March 23, 1928, in Diana, W. Va., the son of the late Walter and Lona Fisher Cool and was preceded in death by infant daughter, Kimberly Eileen Cool. Rev. Cool was a retired Baptist minister and served the following churches: Gospel Baptist Chapel, Whitwell, Tenn., Hinkle Baptist Church, Lookout Mountain, Gillsville Baptist Church, Gillsville, Oconee Baptist Church, Commerce, First Baptist Church of Rhodhiss, Rhodhiss, N.C., Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, Lincolnton, N.C., and Bethel Baptist Church, Morganton, N.C. He also served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Eileen Young Cool, Lincolnton; sons and daughter-in-law, James D. Cool, Jr. and Dale Cool, Johns Creek, and Gary W. Cool, Bishop; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela C. and Marc Smith, Lewisville, N.C.; brother, Arnold J. Cool, Albany, Ky.; sister, Virginia C. Stein, Port St. John, Fla.; grandchildren, James Walter Cool, Allison L. Coulter and husband Lanier, Victoria Julianne Smith, and Jenna Elizabeth Smith; and great-granddaughter, Emmaline Kimberly Coulter.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, at First Baptist Church, Lincolnton, N.C., with the Rev. Greg Hager officiating. Burial will be in Hollybrook Cemetery. The body will lie in state for one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 18, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Warlick Funeral Home.
