What a shame! Jackson County needs more people like Pat. I can understand her frustration. It's time for Good Ol' Boy politics to step aside and allow a more progressive commission to be elected. Jackson County fears change and perceives it with such startling vehemence that any newcomer to the politics of the county must be of strong will and a quick on their feet to learn that this county is stuck in a time warp. Progress is stagnated in Jackson and Barrow because of the fear of change. Why must change be bad? Look at Hall County. It welcomed the new growth, prepared for it, embraced it, and used it to their advantage. The result was one of the top high schools in the country. Jackson needs to follow their example, entice new home ownership and encourage business growth in order to raise tax revenue to use it for the betterment of ALL county and city services. Yes, some of your farmland will disappear, but if your county and city commissions are savvy, they can integrate growth with natural beauty. This is the time to do so. Plan for parks and recreation. Give the kids something to do instead of leaving them to their own devices. Follow the lead of your neighbors and see what is working for them. Jackson County is at a pivotal point of its future. Make the right decisions, embrace change, embrace those "liberals" you fear because the new guys in town are smart, savvy and ready to get involved. Embrace the new ideas of the new population because the same old - same old are stagnated and need to move over to allow Jackson County to flourish like Gwinnett, Hall, and Forsyth (70% growth last year).
